Assassin (Neutral)

Postby Yopix » Wed Nov 11, 2015 4:46 pm

Role Name: Assassin

Role Alignment: Neutral Killing/Chaos

Attributes: Will get a list of job requests to decide from. NOT immune at night.

Abilities: Can put up their work poster. Take orders anonymously from others to kill their selected target. You may choose to kill the person who summoned you, or the selected person of their choosing.

Goal: To assassinate at least two/three people.

Wins with: Anyone as long as their win condition is met.

Special Attributes: Unique role, ignores night immunity

Additional Information (comments): This is a bit confusing, so let me explain. The Assassin, at any point in the game, is able to put up a "Now hiring" poster or just "reveal", which reveals that there is an assassin in the game, but not who they are. Once this happens, people may "post their jobs" by choosing a person they would want dead. (You click a newly present icon at the top of the screen, and it gives you a list of people to choose from who you would like the assassin to kill). The following night, the Assassin's chat box will have notifications of each request, and from who. He then has a choice of all of the requested people, as well as the people who made the request. He may do nothing if he pleases as well. Again, he ignores night immunity and is NOT immune himself, so evil with a target on their backs have a reason to try and get rid of him. Townies might want him away if mafia is taking advantage of him to kill townies. They are no longer able to take or accept jobs after their goal is met. Neutral chaos sounds the most plausible to me, maybe killing.

So it's a mix of the two ideas: Assassin and Bounty Hunter. Great.

It's an O.K role, but I feel like some parts of it are a bit incomplete.

Firstly, I'm not quite sure if Assassins can reveal Day 1 (even though I don't think it matters) but if they can, there would be an extra kill from the Assassin every night until they die, and I think that'll be a bit too much when other kills are from mafia, neutral and town (by the way, you said that the goal is completed and the assassin is no longer to take requests once they kill at least two to three people, so is it more than three people or is three maximum? Plus even if it was three for the maximum, the Assassin would just be completely useless after their goal is completed). Also, will the revealing be automatic or will you have to click a button like the sun for mayor?

Secondly, ToS isn't a peaceful game where there are no arguments or insults, so you must take into consideration the fact that game throwers could ask the Assassin to kill one of their own teammates. Also, Assassin can also be know as "random killing", like random lynching, but during the night. Pretty much like autocracy. (Seriously, why bother creating a role where only one person gets to randomly decide who dies. If you want someone dead for no reason, just random lynch them. Although you might end up getting lynched yourself).

Finally, the questions for this part are all different and are only minor ones. In the abilities, I'm not quite sure what you meant by "the person who summoned you". Is it a person who personally asked you to assassinate through whisper?
What are the investigation results for Assassin?
Will nothing happen when a witch tries to control you?

The only thing I agree with it is that neutral chaos or maybe even evil is best. This role is best used for mafia and neutral, so might as well change the "wins with" to only mafia and neutral.

I don't know why, just something inside of me just says that this isn't happening. And I'm never wrong with a gut feeling...

I kind of like this role, but it should be Benign or Evil TBH
Also, limit the amount of controls per player, or faction.

I like this role.
I agree with Oliy, a change of the alignment is indeed good. Normally N:Ks are unable to win with Town, Mafia or other N:Ks. But in my opinion neither N:E (needs to live, town must lose), nor N:B(selfish, protects self, needs to survive) nor N:C(neither Mafia nor Town may win/wins alone as faction) fits based on the description or the role.
I suggested others with similar ideas to create a new alignment called Neutral:Mercenary. What do you, or others think about this alignment?

This would be a good role, but townies could use this to gamethrow and kill confirmed townies. If that could be fixed then this would be a great role.

@Turkey: Jailor could do the same, executing a proven towny. I had this done to me as Mayor before. I have seen Vigilantes shooting a proven town.
Questions regardign role:
- How can the assassin be summoned?
- Is putting up their poster a day action, an automatic action or a night action?
- Does the assassin have to put up their poster every time after they succeeded their job?
- What happens when multiple people are summoning the assassin?
- Does killing the one who summoned the assassin count as an assassination?
- Does the assassin need to take breaks after they have killed someone?

My major concern is about people potentially gamethrowing with it by putting up bad or random jobs. There should be a repercussion if such an event happens. All in all, leaves a bit of a bad taste in my mouth, but somewhat promising.

That is different. There are penalties for those because jailors lose their executions and vigilantes have to commit suicide.I don't see a way that the game could recognize confirmed townies and punish you for hiring an assassin to kill them.

Wow I did not expect this to blow up, ok O_O

One thing I'm seeing is that most of the problems are under the assumption that the assassin doesn't have a free will in who he kills. When one person submits a request, he then has two options. The one asked to kill and the one who requested it. I imagine that it's this choice alone that would make people hesitant to use this role as a tool, even if they're trying to gamethrow, when it could backfire. It's not like the assassin really cares who he actually kills, he just has to do it. I think it's that risk alone that would make people think twice, since after all, people like being d***s to other people.

Also, the list, I was thinking, would consist of "PersonA requested you kill PersonB" in the chat box taking up however many lines as there are requests.
