Throughout the eras, groups of people wearing masks have found themselves meeting under strange, and deadly circumstances. A few of these poor souls have discovered that they've been reborn into these scenarios multiple times, and that some of said souls even orchestrated these events. This situation was no different of course. Shooting throughout time and space, 15 souls, some new, but most old, all appear in the Astral Playing Fields. Some already knew the hell that awaited them, but just what sick mind was behind this gathering?
Welcome one welcome all to another thrilling game of Behind the Masks! Boy do I have a treat for you, so pay close attention, I don't wanna hear you complain about not knowing what you were getting into. This game is unlike any other BtM yet! My insanity has decided that instead of one life, everyone gets TWO LIVES! Even better though, instead of one role, you all get TWO ROLES! With you having ONE ROLE PER LIFE! Yes, that also means that for nearly the entire game, there will be TWO OF THE SAME ROLE IN PLAY AT ONCE! Now, on the off-chance the same role happens to be in a challenge with itself, THE PERSON ON THEIR LAST LIFE WILL CLAIM VICTORY! If you're still confused, feel free to ask for clarification.
This will be a 15 player game, with (you guessed it) RULES! Be sure to read those too, though most of you should know them.
Roles in Play: Spoiler:
Barbarian
You are a Barbarian! Across the land, your name is whispered in fearful corners and shouted from the peaks of mountains. Mighty conquerors seek mighty trophies, and the Palace is certainly a worthy trophy.
Three times per game, during the Dinner Phase, you may intimidate one player, preventing them from acting (challenging), however they must accept all challenges made against them. PM the Moderator to use this power. If you intimidate a player, the intimidated player will be announced at the beginning of the Challenge Phase.
Blackmailer
You are a Blackmailer! Your hobby is certainly dirty- in that you dig up dirt. Research and preparation are the keys to success. Before you entered the Palace, you were already familiar with every tidbit and secret embedded in the past of the other players- secrets that will make them cringe in fear and do your bidding.
During the Dinner Phase, you may blackmail one player. PM the Moderator to use this power. Blackmailed players must challenge during the Challenge Phase, or will die. Only the blackmailed player will know that they are blackmailed.
Blacksmith
You are a Blacksmith! Steel flows like water under your steady gaze and steady flame. The pounding of your hammer crafts works of art and workers of war. One of your weapons in a hand guarantees victory.
At the beginning of the Action Phase, you will be notified of the intended winner(s) of the accepted duel(s). Three times per game, during the Action Phase, you may change the winner of a duel. PM the Moderator to use this power. You may use this ability once on yourself.
Court Jester
You are a Court Jester! Entertaining is your bread and butter, you live and breath laughter and lightheartedness. Capable of soothing even the loudest of mobs into a quiet peace and calmness. You will do anything to prevent death, including changing your act when it occurs.
When a player dies by non-execution your position on the duel/dance list is randomized (Credit to Blackajack for this one) Once per game you may choose to entertain your fellow guests and force a skip of the current voting phase and preventing that the MAA Shot, Poisoner's Poison and the Current execution from taking place.
Man-at-arms
You are a Man-at-arms! All these poor people attempting to fool their way to riches, you have, and always has, been an excellent murderer. By detecting weakness in the group, you can spread fear with one simple line - Who done it?
Once per voting phase, you may shoot one person. They will not survive the shot unless they are the Soldier. If you shoot the Soldier, the Soldier will kill you instead. You can only shoot losers of duels/dances. Additionally, you also gain an additional shooting every time you defeat a player in a duel or dance. The shooting is silent, meaning it does not reveal your role. You cannot store more than 1 shot at a time. You start off with one shot.
Credit to Blackajack.
Monk
You are a Monk! Some claim that the gods do not exist, but how can you deny their existence when they whisper in your ears? A lifetime of physical and mental discipline has brought you to the peak of aptitude. May the gods forgive you when you unleash your force.
You alternate between the top of the Duel List and bottom of the Dance list, and top of the Dance List and bottom of the Duel List. It is randomized which list you start on top of. Once per game, during the Dinner Phase, you may pray. PM the Moderator to use this power. After you pray, you will move to the top of both the dance and duel lists until the next Dinner Phase.
Musician
You are a Musician! Perfect pitch, perfect playing... perfect music. Hands dance across strings and keys as the notes rise and fall. No matter the tune, no matter the tempo, every song ascends to perfection in your grasp. Yet with a single twist, that song becomes an instrument of death.
At the beginning of the Action Phase, you will be notified of the intended winner(s) of the accepted dance(s). Three times per game, during the Action Phase, you may change the winner of a dance. PM the Moderator to use this power. You may use this ability once on yourself.
Peasant
You are a Peasant! Every day, you go out onto your simple plot of land and farm. But those who look past your grubby face will find a mind as sharp as a tack. The world is an open book to you, as darting eyes pick out nuances in every scenario.
You will be notified whenever the Blacksmith or the Musician interferes in a challenge. You will be notified of any secret plate switches. You will be notified of the original target for the poisoner. (Not post-switch)
Poisoner
You are a Poisoner! There is no better color than the pale blue of asphyxiation. Or perhaps a simple white pallor. Hmm, but the rich re- No matter. Your art is that of death, slipped unnoticed into a vein, on the rim of a cup, among familiar foods...
You may poison a player's food during the Voting Phase. If they eat it, they will die during the dinner phase. PM the Moderator to use this power.
Professor
You are a Professor! A higher education you had, and a higher education you now teach. You are an expert in the field of social analysis. Whether it be his posture, or or his grin, or another tell that no one but you can pick up upon, all you need to determine the past, present, and true intentions of a man is to observe him carefully.
Whenever you guess a player's role, you may also submit a secondary guess to the moderator for the same player. If the secondary guess is correct, it will be displayed as your submitted guess, otherwise, your primary guess, whether correct or incorrect, will be displayed. Whenever you win a challenge, you may submit a third guess the following Dinner Phase.
Royal
You are a Royal! The blood running through your veins is undeniably royal. An aura of command encircles and influences those who behold you. Combined with a forceful and assertive personality, you can direct others without their knowledge.
Your vote counts as two during the Voting Phase. PM the moderators to cast your second vote secretly. Once per game, during the Voting Phase, you may force a vote. PM the Moderator to use this power.
Sorcerer
You are a Sorcerer! Why must the magical elite linger among the unpowered civilians? No matter. Your victory is near certain, as you are obvious the the most cunning and clever person here. The other contestants must be grateful that your powers are too flashy.
Once per game, you may choose a player to magically kill. PM the Moderator to use this power. When you use your power, you will be revealed as the Sorcerer. There are no restrictions on when you may use this power, only that you cannot use it if you are one of the losers in a voting phase.
Soldier
You are a Soldier! You went off to war a simple peasant boy, unsure of the world. You returned not a man, but a soldier. With guns, war is hell. With magic, war is worse. Your mind was nearly shattered, and your body forever changed.
You are immune to poison. You will kill the MAA when they shoot you.
Student
You are a Student! During your college years, you could never confine yourself to a single field of study. Thankfully, a natural knack for learning led to the collection of a wide variety of skills. In the Palace, this ability will serve you well, as duelling and dancing are simply other skills.
Each time you lose a duel or dance and lose, you move up two slots on the corresponding list. Dead players count as being on the lists.
Thief
You are a Thief! The perfect crime remains unknown. It is a mark of your prowess as a thief that no one had heard your name or seen your exploits. You have stolen from the richest kings, scammed the brightest scholars... Switching plates is like taking candy from a baby.
You may switch player's plates up to 5 times without their knowledge. PM the Moderator to use this power. If the poisoner dies, you will become the new poisoner.
Challenge Phase: During the Challenge Phase, you may challenge anyone to a Duel or Dance. The difference between the two depends on what role you have, but you may only challenge one person per phase. For a challenge to go through, the challenged person must accept the challenge (unless they don't have any denies). Once you Challenge a person, there's no take backs.
Duel: Spoiler:Barbarian Soldier Man at arms Blacksmith Sorcerer Peasant Blackmailer Professor Poisoner Student Thief Court Jester Musician Royal Monk (alternates)
Dance: Spoiler:Royal Thief Musician Blackmailer Peasant Sorcerer Poisoner Court Jester Professor Soldier Man at arms Student Blacksmith Barbarian Monk (alternates)
Action Phase: This Phase is where most secondary actions will occur. Make sure to read your role card to know what you can do! After the Action Phase, Duel and Dance results will be revealed.
Voting Phase: The losers of Challenges will be eligible for voting in this phase (Except for Phase 1). All players will get one vote, save for the Royal, who gets a secret second vote. Should you be voted off by the group, you will lose a life. If you're on your last life, then you will be considered dead. Roles will not flip upon death (Unless it was via Guess.)
Additionally, you may receive gifts in this phase, one per Challenge you participated in. There are 7 gifts to choose from: Free Deny- You receive an extra Deny for use in the Challenge Phase. Free Switch- You receive an extra Plate Switch for use in the Dinner Phase. Free Guess- During the upcoming Dinner Phase, you may freely guess at another player's role. Should you be correct, they will lose a life (or die). You may only have one per round. Guess Immunity- You cannot be guessed during the upcoming Dinner Phase. Premium Food- Food so amazing it cannot be tainted by a single Poisoner's poison. Should 2 Poisoners poison it however... Lottery Ticket- Should you be the only one to choose this gift, you receive 2x the gifts you would have received. Gift Reserve- Chosen in place of the other gifts. May be redeemed at any time.
Dinner Phase: What better way to end a set of Phases than with Dinner? During this Phase, players can swap plates with one another. Whoever ends up eating the Poisoned food will lose a life (or die). The Thief may make up to 5 hidden PM swaps.
Other Rules to Note: -PM's are allowed, just make sure I'm included in them. -Votes will only be locked in once all votes and gifts are received. -Last wills be taken BEFORE you die, not after -If you die, then stay dead, this means no talking in the thread -You will be prodded if you haven't made an action in 24 hours of a phase start. 3 prods and you'll be modkilled. -In the event one Sorcerer zaps another, they both die. Watch your aim. -In the event two Royals decide to force a vote in the same turn, the one who sent their PM in first gets priority. -CJ Randomization will occur as normal, in case you were wondering.

I'm the alpha wolf with the howl that is worse than my bite! A gentle, caring creature that will gladly be your companion or let you become part of the pack.
My alts were EdwardMidford and TsuchiyaTenaka. I apologise profusely for being bad and hiding behind them. I ask for forgiveness but know that won't be a simple feat. Please stop bringing up my past, as I'm striving towards a new future. I just sometimes struggle to show that I truly want said change.

1) What role is used from my 2 roles to determine the result of the challenge? 2) If 2 people with exact same role challenge each other and they both have 2 lives what happen?
Thanks parker for the gif and SuperDuper for suggesting rotational sig

1. The Role used will be specified when I hand them out. Your specified first life will be the first role you assume. 2. Impossible. Each set of lives will be like a full game. Everyone's first life will be like one game, and their second life as another. In short, no two players will have the same role and same amount of lives (if that makes sense..)

But isn't it possible for Player A to be Role 1 on with 2 lives left and Player B to be Role 1 with one life left? They'd be the same role at the same time, so if they challenged each other what would happen?

/join as The Debater EDIT: And just a question, as I've never played this particular forum game before -- What determines who wins a Dance/Duel? Is it just randomized, or is it who's on top / closer to the top of the list? EDIT: And do we get to see the Duel/Dance list publicly?
