I don't care if there's anything important we missed. I don't remember deciding to be here and do all this shit. And now everyone else is fucking dead.

This place is a mistake and I already had run ins with several shady characters. I'm not risking my life when I don't have to. I already have and it's thanks to Nagi I even escaped one of those times.

...

Let's just go.

The lot of you walk to the desert Monolith. You decide that it's best for Phi not to see Nagi's body up close.

You approach the monolith. Bones places his hand on the hand identation.

“[X] Insufficient BP.”
“[V] Sufficient KP.”

The monolith slides open, revealing an elevator. You hesitate, but enter. There is no button on the inside. Once all four of you are inside, the monolith entrance closes and you feel as if you're moving downwards. After enough time, you feel the sensation of stopping, and the door slides open. You walk out into a room.
---
The room is wide and full of things-- crates, supplies, tech, eletronics, and such. There are doors that lead to other rooms. Phi walks around, looking at one of the crates, the one they approach seems full of non-perishable food. Is this a... bunker?

There are holographic screens turned on. There's a newscast playing.

"And now, it is time for our plan to come to fruition. What we have to do to protect Kagutsuchi and the world, is to simply strike the hearts of the enemies. If they are unable to fight, and allow themselves to submit, then we can work together for a better future. Kagutsuchi needs to be the one to lead. That is the only path forward. It is very much like iron: To forge a new and better world, we must first mold it with fire."

The hologram newscast expands, now covering the entire wall, floor to ceiling. It divides into 12 different transmissions, each showcasing a different Hierarchical City from above.

You witness in horror the apocalypse that ensues, as each city is decimated, all in the same method. First, the sky above turns crimson, as a bolt of red light descends towards a ground zero point somewhere in the city. Then, a sphere of white light that quickly expands in all directions, engulfing everything, and pulling buildings, people and debris towards it. Finally, after reaching a large enough size, the sphere darkens and collapses inwards to a point again, then dissipating as suddenly as it appeared.

The target metropolis would be left to collapse on it's own, the coastal ones being flooded with gigantic waves, another two being blazed by volcanic flame, three more covered in an unbreathable dark smog, others having suffered such structural damage that every building would crumble on it's own.

You watch, unable to move, unable to process the catastrophe that had just stricken the whole world at once. You watch, frozen, as all screens combine to show earth as a whole, a recording from moments earlier as 12 white dots visible from the atmosphere lit up at once.

The Adjuntant's voice is filled with surprise.
"Wait... No, these readings... It can't be... They promised... They promised Kagutsuchi would stand supreme above all others! ...Their servants! They... They lied to us! They swore this was for us, but that was not their plan at all! This cannot be real... It can't... be... ...Kagutsuchi..."

You understand what he means when a 13th dot lights up on the screen.
Kagutsuchi.

I propose we head ourselves up first if the issue lies in punishing those that betray. We do not require engagement at this time so long as we project our strength. If Scrivano and Pat betray, Bastian may come to our aid as well as the person who has betrayed.

Out of curiosity, do you like pink?

Arckas wrote:Yes.

My... -I once saw a beautiful pink lace dress. It was pleasing and calming to the eye.

Arckas wrote:It is irrelevant to the task at hand. In fact, it would put you more at danger with oneself.

Instead, may I ask why 19 reminds you of someone?

renetear wrote:Thanks, I'll live even if it's rough. It's been almost 15 years since then anyway.
I probably shouldn't have brought that up though, to shift back a bit, did you ever get that pink dress?

Arckas wrote:Is that a tactical request for information?

They are the ones who gave me these hands. They adopted me as a there step-child. My step mother loved to wear pink dresses...

Oh yes, I've certainly made up my mind, dearest Shizue, but we don't need to do an, assault as you say, assassinations, 'accidental' deaths... there's many ways we can go about this.
First of most we need a blind spot for Pop's dumb cameras, or to kill him first...

Nagi is standing in front of Scrivano. She has her shield up, covering the right side of her head. Her katana's blade is bloody, as is the ground to the side of them. Scrivano's neck is bloody as well, his face contorted in anger, and a double-barrel shotgun on his hands.

Shimi is still standing away, closer to the monolith.

I said we should assassinate only in the perfect situation not expecting the perfect situation to actually happen. If I didn't take it at that point I knew there would be no better chance.

Character follows orders unconditionally and I didn't want to go back on that now. Think it was fitting for the character.

While I hate murdering I do what I got to do lmao.

OOC:

If you have any questions/points you'd like to make about the game feel free to do so.

I think that despite some roles not having the opportunity to show their full potential, they were fairly balanced. I would've liked to put the Cop's CSI ability in action as well as see the Corporate's Setup actually utilized (it was triggered, but the lights were turned off). I also really liked the Solo role with it's flexibility, it was essentially an option to the player on which of the two variations to take after. And the Netrunner cameras ended up not being as broken as I thought they would be (which is why I made it a chaos-aligned role, presuming a player with good intentions would just easily abuse all that information available). I also think the Fixer is an interesting way to make a role: short term upside for long term downside, although the downside ended up not affecting the game. So I'll probably take some of this and try to adapt / retry it at a later point.

As for the 'tasks' they were essentially PvE missions where 1-4 players would at the end gain some reward for completion. The first questgiver (the woman at the Cafe) was blended among the customers and you needed to actually /inspect customers to see her stand out. All other three agents were pointed out as people doing something in the room descriptions. You'd get a full description of them if you /inspected them which with the level of detail alone on the desc should grab you attention as them being important. You'd be given a simple puzzle upon talking to them, and solving it would earn you one of the four cards required to enter Room 999 located in the 99th floor of Larkspur Hotel. The person who solves the puzzle and earns the card is allowed to choose a group to embark on the PvE mission and is debriefed on what that mission is. Each mission would reveal a bit of lore with it.

So in one hand I understand the gripe with Ryan/Schultz taking up those tasks all for themselves, but on the other hand, they were the ones who did actually pursued and found the obvious NPCs of note. There were people visiting the Rec Lobby before Ryan did and none of them tried talking to the agent there, for example. Schultz wasn't the first at the Slammer either.

I think the problem maybe was just with the system of missions themselves. Perhaps having a Mission Phase would've been better like in FiM. The reason I chose not to go that path was because it'd require making 12 possible tasks instead of 4. While mechanically it might've been fairer to do so, it requires more effort than I felt was necessary. I also considered placing some restriction on joining the task groups for the people who had already been in a task before, but that felt like a punishment for trying more than anything. One possible solution I came up with only once the game was almost over was requiring that at least one person who had not been in a task joined the group. If I do this type of task system again I'll probably try out that fix.
