W flips the coin. It lands on the dorso of his hand, which he covers without looking.

He takes a deep breath.
"Uno pro omnibus..."
"...Omnes pro uno."

W uncovers the coin.

I must say that was the last thing I expected you to do at this point. I guess Lenny had a reason to always be so nervous.

W lets out a long sigh before letting the hand covering the coin go limp, revealing it to be Heads. The coin falls off his hand as he hesitantly reaches for a remote, pressing the button on it. The garage door opens up, revealing a bright light that cannot be mistaken for anything else but sunlight, sweet sunlight of home.

"Perhaps another opportunity will arise for you, Matthew....though I doubt it'll be within my time."

The group looks over each other and slowly heads towards the garage door. As they start to exit it, J stops for a moment and stares over at the unopened metal door.

Sara notices this and takes a better hold of her throat.

"What's with you, big guy?", she says as the pen capsule in her throat jiggles.

J hesitates for a moment, but turns to Sara.

"Oh, my apologies," he says, the visor of his armor's helmet making a puzzled expression. "I just feel I forgot something..."

Sara rolls her eyes and heads back out the garage door. J soon follows her lead only after looking to the top of the TEMPEST machine to see an albino finch perched atop it, cooing.

J gives a small wave to the bird and turns, his white armor becoming one with the blinding light.

Innes Abbà - Went all in, came out broke

Himeyo Kiyokawa - Accidentally killed by Sara Lynn due to Augusto Díaz
Lauro Russo - Shot through the heart by Anki
Lenny Bonacci - Case of three gunshot wounds to the chest by Mikkel Nielsen.

Roles

Spoiler:
Heicho Yusuma
Age: 31
Sex: F

You have always liked getting people to do what you want. Through the game of politics, you've learned how to say exactly what you need to. Whenever you're at a rally, it almost feels like they could kill for you.

Politician
"Come on, just snap, snap, snap your fingers for me."

Code: Select all
VIT: -2     |     END: -2      |    STR: -3
-------------------------------------------
AGL: +1     |     SKL: +0      |    CUN: +3

Silver Tongue - A way with words
You are able to give off an electromagnetic pulse via your voice that will give a +2 buff to the actions of a specific target. This buff will last until either the phase ends or the target is knocked out and/or killed. You may do this as many times as you like, but only once per person. You may target yourself with this buff once per phase cycle.

Flanger - Equal and opposite reactions
The first time that you are to lose or gain no BP during an AB round, the round outcome will change as if both sides voted Ally.

Win Condition(s):
    Escape.

Mikkel Nielsen
Age: 25
Sex: M

An orphan as long as you can remember, you've had nobody to count on but yourself. Living day to day, a pickpocket or burglary at a time, you've picked up on a few tricks which some would call dark magic. You call it survival.

Rogue
"Can't hit what you can't see."

Code: Select all
VIT: +0     |     END: -3      |    STR: +1
-------------------------------------------
AGL: +1     |     SKL: +1      |    CUN: +2

Subterfuge - In plain sight
You are able to become completely invisible while not moving. Upon becoming visible, you gain a +2 STR/AGL boost for your next five actions.

Escape Artist - The great Houdini
Once per phase, you may escape any effects of immobilization or movement speed reduction.

Win Condition(s):
    Escape.

Ulf Naess
Age: 40
Sex: M

Ulf, from the old Norse "Wolf", is an apt name for a hunter. Though wolves travel in packs, you've lived alone in the cold wilds for decades. While bears might have been a decent challenge, you sense you may have to hunt the most dangerous game.

Trapper
"Know your ground, your pack, and your quarry."

Code: Select all
VIT: +0     |     END: +2      |    STR: +0
-------------------------------------------
AGL: +0     |     SKL: +2      |    CUN: -3

Hunter Traps - A trapper's arsenal
You may kneel down to set a trap on the ground. Once set, it will become invisible, and stay there for the rest of the game. The trap will be activated once stepped on by another player.
You begin the game with the following four traps. You may only use each once.
  • Freezing - The prey is frozen in place until hurt, or until a small amount of time passes.
  • Ice - A radius of ice slows movement and gives "Inept: Everything" to all other players in the ring of ice for a small amount of time.
  • Snake - Three poisonous snakes are summoned and attack the prey. The poison slows movement and deals mild damage, but shouldn't be lethal unless the prey is very weak.
  • Explosive - A small explosion from the prey's feet. Not lethal, but enough to maim.

Hunter's Mark - A hunter's obsession
The first time you are betrayed or attacked, the aggressor(s) becomes your obsession(s). You cannot win while they still live.

Win Condition(s):
Escape while ensuring your obsessions are dead.

Sara Lynn
Age: 26
Sex: F

You've always been obsessed with your own self. Others have taken a kind to scream about greed and self absorption. Surely, there's nothing wrong... with putting yourself above all else.

Narcissist
"It's only natural to think only of yourself."

Code: Select all
VIT: +0     |     END: +0      |    STR: +0
-------------------------------------------
AGL: +0     |     SKL: +0      |    CUN: +0

Confidence Boost - Resolve strengthened as the exit nears
For every individual Betray in an AB game (including your own), you will gain a stat point that you can allocate into any of your current stats.

Guided Hand - Manipulation by chaos
During an AB round, choose any pair other than your opponents. You may change that pair's individual votes. During the next AB round, you cannot select a pair that contains either of those from the prior pair.

Win Condition(s):
Escape, or ensure only those who have Betrayed escape.

Nameless One
Age: ??
Sex: ??

Who are you? Where are you? What was your life like? You can't remember for certain, only vague bits and pieces. Whatever the case, you're eager to find help, and leave this chunk of metal.

Armor
"This white armor... Am I... A White Knight?"

Code: Select all
VIT: +5     |     END: +0      |    STR: +3
-------------------------------------------
AGL: -5     |     SKL: -5      |    CUN: -3

The Guide - Now available in 67 different languages!
You begin the game with a note. It reads:
A keyhole rests on the back of your neck.
Should you wield the key and open the lock, the armor will open, and your memories will return.
Unfortunately for you, said key does not exist in this facility.

    ...What?

The Protection - A cage's purpose depends on which side you're on
You begin the game entrapped within a bulky set of white and gold armor, covered with a black cloak, and fitted with a built-in voice scrambler and bracelet. This armor renders you nearly invulnerable to most attacks and packs a heavier punch in fisticuffs. However, you are extremely slow and can easily be out-maneuvered.

Win Condition(s):
Escape, or find the key to your armor.

Gwalchmei
Age: 33
Sex: M

You remember the light. Revolution. Freedom. Conquests by your own hand. The responsibility of the future is a lot to bear. You could turn your back and live a quiet life of peace, or you could finish the work: to bring about balance to the realities your split selves inhabit. Would that make you whole? Would that be freedom?

Hawk of Light
"I'll not... betray my dream. That is all."

Code: Select all
VIT: -3     |     END: -3      |    STR: -3
-------------------------------------------
AGL: +3     |     SKL: +3      |    CUN: +3

Femto - White beacon of dread
Once, you may turn your state of mind into "Femto" mode. While in this mode, you will mirror all damage done to yourself to your attacker. You are also able to regenerate your own health through the absorption of a corpse via physical contact. The first time that you would be killed or knocked out, you will instead not and the attack will be completely negated. These powers will last until you are either killed, knocked out, or the phase ends.

Win Condition(s):
Escape, or ensure the amount of dead players is equal to the amount of live players in the other world.

Ines Abbà
Age: 29
Sex: F

You have participated in a feud against your brother for as long as you can remember. The turmoil the past year has escalated drastically -- you suspect he hired someone to kill you. Perhaps it's time to pay in the same coin.

Adversary
"There can only be one."

Code: Select all
VIT: -1     |     END: -1      |    STR: -1
-------------------------------------------
AGL: +1     |     SKL: +1      |    CUN: +1

Sibling Keeper - My lesser half
You are in a death feud with your sibling, Francesco (PlayerName). Any actions towards them will always fail, and vice versa. You both will be able to see each other's inventories, excluding the hidden slot.

First Born - One foot in front of your's
Once, you will be able to swap your BP with your brother's BP. This will not work if your brother is already dead.

Win Condition(s):
Ensure your brother's death and escape, or escape with no more than three people (including yourself) other than your brother.

[spoiler]
Francesco Abbà
Age: 28
Sex: M

You engaged in a feud against your sister for many years now. The past year came to a turning point after a mercenary botched an assassination attempt against her. No doubt she knows now, and will be planning to pay back.

Adversary
"There can only be one."

Code: Select all

Sibling Keeper - My lesser half
You are in a death feud with your sibling, Ines (PlayerName). Any actions towards them will always fail, and vice versa. You both will be able to see each other's inventories, excluding the hidden slot.

Second Born - In your shadow
Once per phase cycle, swap an item from your inventory with one in your sister's. She'll not be informed of this, and will notice no change when using Sibling Keeper. When she attempts to use her item, she will find the item you swapped it with instead.

Win Condition(s):
Ensure your sister's death and escape, or escape with no more than three people (including yourself) other than your sister.

Lauro Russo
Age: 28
Sex: M

Your uncle is the leader of a large organized crime faction in Sicily. As his nephew and capable boxer, you've been entrusted multiple "jobs" to carry out, and you do so with a smile of delight every time. The red looks good on your bare hands. This game... is an opportunity for you.

Pugilist
"Attack is only one half of the art of boxing."

Code: Select all
VIT: +0     |     END: +3      |    STR: +0

AGL: +0     |     SKL: -4      |    CUN: -4

Adept: Fisticuffs

Street Code - Honor Above All
You are not able to use weapons when you fight. However, those who use weapons against you will have a '-3' debuff to their actions with said weaponry.

Adaptive Weightclass - Keep 'em Guessing
During a combat situation, you are able to fluctuate between Lightweight (+3 AGL), Middleweight (+3 STR), Heavyweight (+3 VIT), or Welterweight (+1 STR/AGL/VIT). You may fluctuate once at the beginning of the fight, and will be able to fluctuate again once you land a successful strike on your enemy. All fluctuations revert to your original stats once out of combat.

Win Condition(s):
Kill three players and escape, or escape without losing a fight.

Lenny Bonacci
Age: 45
Sex: M

Numbers are beautiful. They are to reality like notes are to a partition. You'd like the position of being a composer. And participating in a numbers game? Sounds like an amazing opportunity.

Arithmomaniac
"Numbers... the particles of our universe..."

Code: Select all
VIT: +0     |     END: +0      |    STR: +0
-------------------------------------------
AGL: +0     |     SKL: +0      |    CUN: +0

Binary Vision - Building blocks of life
Once per phase, you may allocate your stat points however you see fit. The amount of points you can allocate is equal to the square root of Global BP Count rounded to the nearest whole number. You begin with 7 stat points to allocate. Your allocated stats will revert to its base form whenever the Global BP Count changes in any way.

Blue Screen - ERROR
Whenever a person dies, you will receive a permanent '-2' to one of the stats in your base form of your choosing.

Win Condition(s):
Escape with 3 or more people, or see that the Global BP Count is a perfect square or a prime number when the Escape door has closed..

Augusto Díaz
Age: 33
Sex: M

You're a man of harsh action rather than soft spoken words. Results can only be obtained through determination to act fast and fiercely. As such, you've been tasked with putting the wits of other players at test-- with the threat of death.

Revolutionary
"There is no priority higher than the prevention of terrorism."

Code: Select all
VIT: -2     |     END: +0      |    STR: +0
-------------------------------------------
AGL: +2     |     SKL: +2      |    CUN: +0

EMP Bomb - Fool Me Once, Shame On You
Prior to the Puzzle or Roaming Phase, choose a location to plant an EMP bomb, as well as the specifics. The bomb will be planted for you and an announcement will be made regarding the bomb. The other players will have until the end of the next Roaming Phase to find the bomb. Once found, players will be given 48 hours to disarm the bomb, which is done via finger-pricking a player to test their blood. They have two attempts before the bomb detonates. The effect of the detonation is unannounced, but will reverse the BP gains and losses for the next AB Game, meaning those who gain 2 BP will lose 2 BP, etc.

False Alarm - Fool Me Twice, You're an Asshole
You may initiate a false announcement regarding the bomb being planted when it is in fact not.

Win Condition(s):
Have your bomb detonate and live until the end of the game. If your bomb fails to detonate, escape with 3 or fewer others.

Roselle Leblanc
Age: 34
Sex: F

Your time on the police force has bred a furious hatred for cold blooded killers, like the one who killed your mother. You've been trained to do things "by the book" as they say, but there's always been an itch whenever you touched your gun.

Deputy
"Anything you say can and will be held against you."

Code: Select all
VIT: +0     |     END: +3      |    STR: +1
-------------------------------------------
AGL: +0     |     SKL: -2      |    CUN: +2

Adept: Detainment Actions

Equipment Belt - Standard issue carry
You begin the game with a police kit containing a taser, a collapsible baton, and a pair of handcuffs with the key to them. The taser can be fired at range only once, and afterwards may be used five time in close range. This kit is undetectable until all of the items within have been used.

Sixth Sense - A policeman's calling
Every Roaming you may choose a player to shadow. You will be able to track wherever they are at any point during that Roaming Phase. You will be alerted when someone dies and learn of their location, and will also be able to tell whether they were killed in self-defense or in cold blood.

Win Condition(s):
Escape without allowing killers to escape (excluding yourself), or see that no less than 4 people escape.

Himeyo Kiyokawa
Age: 54
Sex: F

After tending to wounds of war soldiers, and losing an eye on one occasion, you've seen the worst. People get chatty when they're dying, and it's even more fascinating to see what they focus on at their deathbed. Their choice of last words. Some of them are quite haunting. Frankly, it's best to not know.

Field Doctor
"War doctors are the only caring hands you'll find in a battlefield."

Code: Select all
VIT: +0     |     END: -2      |    STR: -4
-------------------------------------------
AGL: -1     |     SKL: +0      |    CUN: +4

Adept: Accuracy Actions, Medical Procedures
Inept: Combat Actions

First-Aid Kit - Too old for this tomfoolery
You begin the game with a first-aid kit. This kit contains 3 rolls of bandages, a sedative, a "cure-all" serum, and a scalpel. The first-aid kit opens by scanning your prosthetic eye's retinal, and thus cannot be opened by anyone else.

Prosthetic Eye - 20/5 vision
Your right eye is an extremely realistic robotic prosthetic. When giving medical treatment to another player, they will become one of your "Patients" and your eye will be able to record that player's win-condition. However, Doctor-Patient confidentiality prevents you from sharing this information with anyone except your patient.

Win Condition(s):
Escape with 4 or more people, or ensure that all living patients escape.

Ulf goes to back up, but before he can even do so Larry puts everything remaining in his body to spring up and deliver an uppercut to Ulf's chin.

As Ulf's body flies into the air, the world feels as if it's in slow motion before his eyes. A man who now is a spitting image of himself from the beginning of this game is blowing out his own candle in their own way. The fist stays connected with Ulf's chin the entire dragging way through his ascent until the point where he ascends past the reach of Larry's fist. Blood erupts from the mouth of the boar mask like the flood coming for Noah's Gate, splattering onto Ulf's bare body as a testament to his final action. This was Larry's Swan Song.

Reality comes back to pace as Ulf lands on the ground, rolling a couple of feet before stopping. His head is spinning and feels like his brain is going through his skull like a pinball machine. He goes to try and stand, but he can hardly find the orientation to raise his arm up.

His eyes are able to move, however, to the slumped over body of Larry. The boar mask with its lips coated in blood paints in almost eerie smile onto the mask.

And looking further, past the mask, you can see a man with the same smile in both blood and muscle, all the way through the cavities in his cheeks.

helllloooooo

  • The game premises were very cool but I think they could have been executed better. One thing I strongly disliked about the initial transition from UPO to OPU was the prep time. Suddenly I was thrown into another game vastly unprepared (I like to plan characters in advance, if I can) into another pyramid puzzle which did not go over well for me <:[ (sorry met)
  • The game hopping was cool, though a bit clunky for lack of a better term. After a while it became hard to remember what happened in one game and what was happening in another.
    • To be honest, they didn't feel like two games running side by side. Even with the chalkboard and mailboxes, because they weren't exactly clear with how they were connected (in story and general...like I put something in the Dressing Room mailbox, where does it end up?).
    • Did not understand the unsuiting of Aleph in OPU at all tbh
    • I would recommend having both games run side by side, if you could. So, throw UPO into a puzzle while OPU goes into an AB Game. Two Roamings at once is chaotic however Puzzles and AB Games are not. In theory, the games would feel more connected as they are happening at the same time, and we didn't constantly jump back and forth. This is not something I can say for certain but it wouldn't hurt to try.
  • Should have made the starting map in OPU bigger to be honest, because we did two roamings (I think) and then went back to a tiny map
  • IDK who decided role stat values but they could be better (especially Lita)
  • Maybe I'm just blind but I got like 0 lore and when Aleph showed up in OPU I did not care enough to listen because I had no reason to. Don't tie a bunch of lore to one role if there's nothing in-game
  • Megaphone was super dope
Overall I had my ups and downs with these games but I think for Arc's first game and the core mechanic of two side-by-side games you guys did a great job. Good job on the puzzles Arc but I'm not looking forward to more breakdowns with future pyramid puzzles :D

if you wanted lore you had to talk to housekey and piece together puzzle rooms a lot

the unsuiting happened because the key was in the date chest (i believe?), so j sent it over the mailbox, i found it, and gave it to aleph

the refusal to put UPO/OPU in their titles was hell for managing pms

we probably shouldve made it more clear the mailboxes/chalkboard were of importance, i just assumed people would try to use the mailboxes right away because they were so out of place. but i think you could tell where one thing would end up by just looking at the rooms and thinking it about a bit. for example the mess hall and dining room both had mailboxes and were thematically similar so that should be apparent

running both games side by side wouldve probably ran smoother in the player side but despite being a cohosted game there were actually few times both schultz and i were available at the same time to properly deal with stuff so that might not have worked

the lore wasnt tied to the armor at all per say, i just took the chance to explain it since null became a host proxy. aj didnt and wouldnt have that lore at all. i tried to hint at it with a few things here and there and with the puzzles, the second puzzle in upo specifically hinted at the true ending: make the number of dead in one room equal the living in the other. clearly i was too subtle and cagey with lore and shouldve taken the time to space it out after every ab game or something like that

stats were a bit over the place and so were some wincons. we didnt put a hard amount of thought in stats to be honest and went mostly in a vacuum. siblings for example couldve been made stronger by turning the 0s into +2s. hindsight is 20 20

full disclosure: the game was far from finished when we began. we had roles and the first sections and puzzles figured out but the rest was a lot of improv. i made the puzzle with dimensions (0d, 1d etc.) literally the day before. so with this improv you ended up with weird stuff like the attic which was literally an empty room save for a chest or the grenade which i immediately regretted adding as part of the prize pool.

some of the takeaways i learned from this game:

--roles need to be 100% objective. met's alternate wincon being subjective was cool in theory and a pain in practice and nelly's shouldve been reworked; arckas' trap effects and some of nelly's potions shouldve been made more quantifiable as well for clarity.

--no vote swappers not only for keeping the integrity of the ab game but to make the phase simpler when working out results

--sewers were supposed to allow you to sneak around like the passageways in AHD but they really didnt turn out that way. maybe when enforcing realism like 'you pass by X on your way' and such which i did like once. but most of the time people were warping around so it didnt matter. sorry for everyone wasting their time with that. they were 100% my idea too. feelsweird

theres some more stuff that im blanking of on rn but ye

there were some really cool moments in this game like arckas being friends with his mortal enemy, met dressing up as zero and tricking cyan, xerxes fight for survival by performing an operation on their own throat, just to name a few. the rp with nelly and xer at the end there was pretty funny too. i didnt realize her char's intentions otherwise i would have warned her everyone left behind would die.

im legitimately surprised people seemed to enjoy the game and the puzzles as much as they said they did. ill admit i was worried all the time throughout about that specially with stuff like how people felt about their roles and stuff.

plus rebecca's spoon will haunt me for ages

thanks everyone for playing, im happy some of you felt so positively about the game at the end there. thanks schultz too for being an awesome cohost.
