Spoiler: My disease just became active, and it's been in remission for a while now. Seeing as it's spiked, I'm really worried because I might lose my insurance in a month, and even then in a year insurance might go to shit.

Spoiler: I went on a trip with Mom, and while I guess I had fun going to the movies on a huge screen and seeing a replica of an old boat and having a nice dinner, I feel like I ruined our chances at visiting other places because my feet hurt too much to walk for too long. X-ray results aren't done until January because break, and while I think it's because of how I run, I still have no definite answer as to why they hurt. We drove past so many places I wanted to see and only ended up leaving the car for a handful, and honestly I feel a bit uh over that.

Spoiler: I wish I could hold conversations with my friends, like I used to before. I miss that.

Everyone adapts in some way eventually, the key moment in that is realizing the truth around you, logic behind everything.
Spoiler: I´d still help others but its not always for their benefit only, I like helping others but it makes me feel good as well - something most people forget is that following other people´s needs often serves to satisfy our own.

Maybe the reasons you like helping others so much, care about them etc only serves to make you feel better yourself. And thats why you go along doing it, not for the sake of others, but for your own as well.
People are evil by default, most people dont even realize it - mostly, we follow our own interests in the core. There are only very few people alive these days who would help others and felt indiferent about it, and kept on helping people regardless. Almost all things we do are fueled by our own interests.

As for people taking advantage of you - dont let them take advantage of you. Say no every once in a while.

Remember - what doesnt kill you makes you stronger. The more they take advantage of that side you have, you gain experience and its less likely they will get that reaction out of you next time. Just need to realize this. Learn to figure out when they plan to take advantage of that good side in you.

Spoiler: Dont see how that makes you a bad person but then again I am a bad person to begin with, so my seal of approval on this wouldnt really mean much, I guess.

I mean, I dont take advantage of people. Not at first - first, I analyze them in order to see whether they plan to take advantage of me first. If they do, I end up taking advantage of them or just disable their ability to take advantage of me. I am good judge of character, which really helps.

If those people genuenly like you and want to be true friends with you, I´d say it would make you a bit bad person. In which case - its never too late to change your customs
As for taking advantage of those who intended to take advantage of you in the first place - thats life right there. Everyone uses all they can to get the upper hand in life. AKA sometimes you got to ride on the red light, thats just the way things are.

Nothing comes for free in life. Interesting life takes effort to make it that way. And boring life is still better then interesting, heavy, hard life full of things that never go your way.
