So, I was scrolling some shitposts when I saw someone say something about Forum Mafia? From what I read, It seems fun as hell but not sure how do you join one. Also, can someone explain me how is it? How many roles are there for Town/Mafia, what are the neutrals etc. I know, to explain such a thing might take a long time but I apreciate if anyone does so :3

Oh! Forum Mafia is like ToS, but here on the forums! You can go to signups to sign up for a game, and the roles can vary depending on the game type! For example, flavor is when you rename roles to fit within a certain theme. For an example of a game with flavor, see XX11. There's also some FM lingo you'll just pick up along the way. I highly recommend it!

I’m new to Forum Mafia myself, but I’ll do my best to give you a run down on how it works.

I’m sure you are experienced with social deduction from Town of Salem, and this is not much different. However, as apposed to ToS’s heavy reliance on mechanics, FM relies much more on reading, logic, and deduction as a whole.

The great thing about FM is that the role list can be different every time. There can be 10 players. 15 players. 20. Or even 6. It’s all determined by the Host. There can also be special scenarios (Town can lynch multiple times, Mafia don’t know who eachother are, etc.) and Flavor, which just renames roles and changes the atmosphere of the game, without really changing any mechanics

Also, most of the time, the role list is not made common knowledge. There are 3 types of role list:
Open - Know every role that exists in the setup (1 Jailor, 1 Doctor, 1 Cop, 6 Citizens, 1 Godfather, 3 random Mafia, etc.)
Semiopen - Know how many of each faction is in the setup (9 Town, 4 Mafia, 2 Neutrals)
Closed - Do not know anything about any role except your own.

It is REALLY IMPORTANT that you learn FM lingo if you want to participate. I suggest looking at the abbreviations on MafiaScum. Otherwise you won’t know common terms like FMPOV, TWTBW, EBWOP, MyLo, LyLo, Towncore, and more).

I’d suggest you read a few game logs before signing up for a game. After that, have fun!

fm is pretty great, but you need a decent amount of dedication for it since days last 48 or 72 hours
so if you're not busy with school, university or work you're good to go
