I was recently permanently banned for an Inappropriate ign, and I find it to be very unfair. I have had my game thrown many many times by a person named Kyle on gfuel, and he's still around and in force (he actually was in one of my games that same day.) I was feeling a little mischievous that morning, so the next game I named myself using his name TEMPORARILY in lobby, just to mess with people, and then immediately changed my name. I was reported and banned for having a inappropriate name shortly after.
A few notes:
- As I said, that name was temporary. I almost immediately changed my name, and no harm whatsoever came to the integrity of that game as a result of it, of which I am certain.
- I did not throw in any way shape or form. I played the game legitimately, as my role, to the best of my somewhat distracted ability, and to my memory, we won that game by quite a healthy margin. I would go so far as to say I was one of the leading town members in the victory as well.
- The rule in question I was banned for is incredibly unintuitive. Since what I did does no direct harm to the game or anyone in any way shape or form, I have no reason to assume it's against the rules. The only way I would know it is in fact not allowed is to read the entirety of the rules, which I did when I made the account, but that was something along the lines of 6-7 years ago. With what little memory I have of that remaining, I don't believe that naming convention was in the rulebook at that time either.
- The name that I changed to does not violate in any way either. It is admittedly dumb and goofy, as are many of the the names I regularly use (i.e. Chungus)
I don't understand why this was a punishable offense in the first place, but the part that irks me the most is the permanence. I would be accepting of a warning or temporary suspension, but it's completely mind blowing to me that I was immediately, unquestionably banned for one singular, harmless mistake after years and years of honorable gameplay.
If I had kept the name and/or actually thrown the game, then this result would not have been unwarranted or surprising, but I did not. As a result, everyone knew that I was in fact not kyle and was playing seriously as intended.
