Well, it all started when I moved to San Francisco. I come from the east coast but relocated here not too long ago for a job. Strange place, It seems that the people here have adapted to an unfavorable (for men) male-to-female sex ratio. Maybe it's the ratio of goobery males to women. I don't know. But anyway.
Imagine my shock when I find a culture of "polyamorous" people in this city. It's frankly disgusting. They all think they are cool pimps who have achieved some kind of sexual utopia, while in fact the situation is three pear-shaped dudes sharing a single girl. It's crazy, there's people here who will bring up their wife's boyfriend in casual conversation to me, a stranger. Happens all the time, right? No! That's not normal! It's terrible!
I have strong opinions about this because I was caught in the middle of this nonsense, this jabberwocky. This malarky. Long story short, a girl I am seeing (for carnal reasons) is poly. I, of course, am not poly, and not poly by transitive property via this girl, either. I don't take her out to eat, etc, I ain't heard of that! But her "boyfriends" do. They do things like take her to expensive dates and dinners and stuff, and even help her build websites. While other people do, well, you know, to her. I am almost sure that they don't have other "girlfriends." This is de facto polyandry. I get nauseous thinking about it.
Anyway, this is all fine until she shows up at my house one day for, well, you know
and she lets me know that her freaking boyfriend gave her a ride to my house. He dropped her off knowing exactly what was going to happen. I didn't even feel cool or alpha, i felt bad for the guy. My stomach sank. I don't think he's being abused or manipulated, just self-deluded. Anyway, to my point: I already knew about this guy from talking to the girl in question that he is a game mod/forum mod for various things. All of this drove the image home re: the suite of personality traits the makes a person like this.So I play a bad round as captain and get (more or less justifiedly) mobbed by command staff and demoted. That began when I was exploring maint, and I ran into crazed maintenance drones. From one of my few other rounds, I had encountered insane maintenance drones. I assumed that was not an every-round thing, so I explored more of maint to familiarize myself with the ship (captain has good access for such a thing). But, sure enough, those manhack things ripped at me, but I put my suit sensors on in time and screamed into comms like a bitch. A heroic doctor saved me. I return to my quarters...
Upon returning to my quarters I find that some dude was driven to suicide. My bridge officers tell me it was some jerk of a senior engineer. As someone who has strong feelings about suicide, I give him a talking to in my office. The CE barges into my office and says that I have to go through her. Being her superior, I have to do no such thing, and I order her to leave. Like some kind of serial killer she refuses a direct order from her superior, and I am forced to call her security to escort her out. A dutiful secman comes, and asks her politely to leave. She refuses like a weirdo, so he needs to use force. the CE and the engineer both start attacking the poor guy! I have to intervene. I open the door to my office to try to get more help, only to find some pissed-off-looking command staff chilling there. I knew that my career was over. They go in and the CMO says I am insane. I disagree. I am still "relieved of duty." I run into my quarters to weigh my options. I crawl into the garbage can to meditate on things, and also hide if the engineer breaks open the door. I remember that the garbage auto-engages its purging shortly after something enters, and I am sent to disposals looking like a total buffoon.
Long story short, I am captured and demoted by a staff who has very good reason to believe at this point that I am a maniac. But I am, of course, not. It's all bad optics. I get bwoinked and tell the admin that I am a victim of circumstances and that there's a coup going down. It gets kicked up the headmin, who friggin job bans me for having a shitty round. Then he explodes me out of nowhere because I guess that's protocol. Images of polyamory start flooding into my brain, the very same brain that was traumatized by encountering poly people. I remember the guy who gave his girlfriend to. Was he an incel? I don't think so. I think he got sex, such as it was, but the incel spirit flared within him. But I dared not ask the girl in question. I did remember his hobbies of moderation. The only way I could cope was with humor, of the slightly abusive kind. I needed to make some kind of comic order out of this depressing "evolution" of romance.
TO sum up, I am requesting an unban and a lifting of all my job bans. I do not intended on playing command staff any time soon, I plan on practicing lower-responsibility roles to sharpen my skills. BUT, I would like the option to be open, so that in an exceptional situation where it would make sense for the round, I would have the ability to practice as a member of command staff, if it was called for.
