does poisoner affect mafioso's promotion?

So, say night 1, the poisoner poisons the mafioso. Day 2, the godfather gets lynched, promoting mafioso to godfather. would the poison still kill him if its not healed, or will his now basic defense stop the poison from actually killing him?
