"The Running Man" by Stephen King.

A lesser known work of his from the 1980s, SERIOUSLY underrated.

Not that lesser known. There's a film adaptation starring Arnold Schwarzenegger.

I love ‘The Adventures and Memoirs of Sherlock Holmes’. REALLY good, if you can understand the high language there. The best thing about it is that the book is not one entire plot, but rather a collection of smaller stories, so you can read a little bit on your free time and still finish a plot.

Despite the film adaptation you'd be surprised how few people know about it when you mention it.

Yeah, no, not buying it. Definitely lesser known. The film is from 1987 and has an average of 5.5/10 on RT. It also definitely does not garner the same audience as Carrie, The Shining, or Misery. Plus we are talking about the book. Some people who may be aware of the film might not be aware that it was based on a book.

Sure, but it's better known than most of his works.

No, it isn't. Stephen King has at least 95 works. It sells for $8 on Amazon. While Thinner by Stephen King sells for almost 15. The more popular book would probably be worth more. If more people know Thinner, which I have never heard of, I HIGHLY doubt The Running Man is that well known because it isn't.

He's written less than 60 novels. And I would suspect the correlation to be the other way around, as the price needs to be higher on books fewer people buy (to an extent). I can't however find book sales, which is irritating.

No, he has published less than 60 novels, but has definitely written more. You don't even know about Stephen King, you have absolutely no credibility in this area. The correlation would not be the other way around because if the books are already not selling increasing the price would make absolutely no sense whatsoever. All of Stephen King's popular novels can sell for over a thousand dollars in their first printing, there is no lesser known book that will ever sell for that high.

And you are assuming this based on? I can make assumptions as well, but I prefer not to. Hell, even if I don't what credibility do you have?

Which is why I said that it only goes so far. Lesser books can be priced higher to attempt to recoup losses, but very well-known novels will sell for more as they can afford to charge more, safe in the knowledge people will still buy it.

Really? Would you call The Green Mile a popular novel? Because a first printing of that can go for less than $3.

I'm assuming what? I'm not assuming anything. I have more credibility than you, seeing as I haven't said blatantly false information about King.

You don't seem to understand how business works at all. You don't increase the price of an already failing product. That would never recoup your losses. If people weren't buying it before, why would they be buying it after you asked them to pay you more for it?

The Green Mile is part of a series of books. A single part of that series is not likely to go for much because people want the whole collection. So, the more popular choice is worth more.

Ohhhhhhh, I absolutely LOVE Stephen King. While I think the Running Man was one of his above average short stories, there are many others that I'd recommend over it. This list is only for his short stories/novelettes not his full length books.

1) The Jaunt - Easily the most terrifying thing I have ever I read. Perhaps it won't scare you, different things scare different people, but I found the premise of this story to be absolutely horrifying.
2) The Long Walk - Dystopianly awesome, right up there with 1984 and Animal Farm.
3) Mile 81 - Creepy as fuck yet thoroughly enjoyable, I was sad when it ended.
4) Apt Pupil - A rather serious subject matter tackled perfectly.
5) 1408 - A slow burn to a terrifying end.
6) In the Deathroom - Edge of your seat thriller with dark humor.
7) Drunken Fireworks - Funny and charming, one of King's light-hearted stories.

Ugh, it is so hard for me to choose. These are some of my favorites in no particular order.

Ender's Game - Orson Scott Card

A Case of Consience - James Blish
Fuzzy Nation - John Scalzi
Moneyball - Michael Lewis
Embassytown - China Mieville
Fahrenheight 451 - Ray Bradbury
The Long Goodbye - Raymond Chandler
Blindsight - Peter Watts
The Yiddish Policemen's Union - Michael Chabon
The Spy Who Came in From the Cold - John le Carre

I despise Agatha Christie. I've only read 2 of her books (Murder On The Orient Express and The Murder Of Roger Ackryod) and they both sucked.

Murder on the Orient Express was full of uninteresting characters. The plot is merely a series of red herrings that led to an extremely disappointing ending.

The Murder of Roger Ackroyd at least had some interesting characters, but the plot was lame. *SPOILER AHEAD* Having an unreliable narrator absolutely ruins a murder mystery as it filters all of the information and make it impossible to guess who is guilty.

I recently tried to have a discussion with people about the novel "Catch 22", and they were so toxic in their responses but somehow I was the one banned from the place we were discussing it.

Not sure I want to read that book now.

Normally it's don't judge the book by it's cover but in your case it'd be don't judge the book by it's readers lmao.
