Scooby-Doo Then and Now

Postby LevinSnakesRise » Sun Dec 27, 2015 1:24 am

Scooby-Doo, from when I was growing up;
Spoiler:

To Now;
Spoiler: Image

..What fucking crack-head 12 year old animated and drew the new one (Be Cool, Scooby-Doo!)? Like seriously, I find this insulting to my child-hood (Scooby-Doo, Where Are You?).

I made this post because I'm binge-watching all the old Scooby-Doo episodes to remember the good old days, back when animation was good, and not shitty. I may be only 20, but damn I feel old.

Name brands tend to bring in more viewers then making up new content. Just look at the Teen Titans, Pokémon, etc.

(Just off the top of my head I'm sure they're are way older remakes)

Once I watched a kid keel over in laughter as he watched from a cartoon and old man break his leg and continue to hurt his leg. The main protagonist and side-kick were also pointing and laughing obnoxiously too. Cartoons nowadays are not just bad, they're just terrible things for children to watch mindlessly for the lessons they internalize in them stick with them as they age and grow up.

Oh don't even get me started with rants about the fucking spin-offs of Pokemon...ugh, like after the tossed Misty, the show just plummeted.

I didn't mind Diamond and Pearl...but come on now. :l Black and White? X and Y? *facepalms*

Talking Pokemon GAMES; Not gonna lie, gens 5 and 6 are my favourites.

Talking Pokemon ANIME; I stopped watching after Johto :| It just got boring...(Though "Rise of Darkrai" is one of my favourite movies)

Talking Scooby Doo and cartoons today in general; Big ass rant incoming.
Spoiler: Even looking at that picture of "Be Cool, Scooby Doo!" makes me want to throw a brick at someone. Preferably whoever came up with that shitstain.
Now, I've watched at least one full episode - if not the entire series! - of every Scooby Doo show, from "Scooby Doo, Where Are You?" through the Scrappy series, and even "13 Ghosts" and "A Pup Named Scooby Doo". The only time I stopped watching after just one episode was "Scooby and Shaggy Get A Clue", I could not stand that show. I hated it that much, that I wouldn't even give "Mystery Incorporated" a chance until this year, and I was glad I did, because it reminded of the older shows.
Then I saw "Be Cool".
I instantly had a bad feeling because it reminded me of Family Guy, American Dad, etc. And no offense to anyone here, but I hate those shows. They're not funny to me, so I was afraid that would be how the new Scooby Doo would be, just minus the offensive elements.
I tried watching it.
I couldn't even make it through one episode.
ONE.
That's just an example of cartoons now. It's like the producers thing that, just because something is for kids, it should just be dumb humour and it's good to go. Take Spongebob, for example. I was never a diehard fan, but the old episodes I could watch and find them funny, and still see morals in them. Like how swearing or telling lies would get you into trouble.
But the new ones....there's no substance. And worse, it's like they teach kids that being naughty, laughing at people in pain or suffering, basically being a little dick, that these things are okay...
Makes me sick.

I just don't understand why they went the route of 'Family Guy' and 'American Dad'. I love those shows, and even cried when they killed Brian off Family Guy, because it was so unexpected, even though they said that week that someone would be killed off.

That doesn't suit the cartoon series, and I don't see why they have to go that route.

What happened to their legs.

I prefer the original since that's what I grew up with and the animation is better, although I don't take offense to a reskinning so long as it keeps the spirit of the original. Change is inevitable and I don't want to be like most people who panic when something they loved undergoes the slightest amount of change.

---

Brock>Misty tbh
Although really they should've ditched Ash for the second season and just have different protagonists each time around.
Snail show doesn't look too bad.

As a man who over the course of his childhood quite possibly saw EVERY Scooby-Doo episode and movie up until Shaggy and Scooby-Doo Get a Clue, I agree with this. However, this applies to kids shows in general. Every non-cartoon show on Nickelodeon and the Disney Channel seems to be a copy of Drake and Josh and Hannah Montana, respectively. It makes me sick.

I don't approve of the changes they made to them after a while in the newer versions. <_<

There's quite a bit of shit on tv these days. At least there's still a number of good shows like Steven Universe, Amazing World of Gumball, Star vs the Forces of Evil, and Gravity Falls (that one's ending soon though ;-; ).

I saw the Scooby Doo series before this one (What's New Scooby Doo, I think? It was the one where they're outfits change each episode to match the setting) and it was pretty good. This is just an insult though.

As for Pokemon Anime, I haven't watched since the end of Sinnoh, when Brock left. Seen one or two episodes since then, but meh.

I remember them in the movies, and one of the shows (Was it What's New, Scooby Doo?).
Not seen any other versions.
BRB, googling.

Edit; So I googled the latest versions from Mystery Incorporated, and while I don't particularly think the animation style suits them, I'm actually kinda impressed they kept the gothic rock style. I was fully expecting them to be sanitized...
Though, this is from a picture, not watching the episode. Probably change my opinion, then.
(Also surprised to discover Thorn's VA is the same VA for a main character in one of my favourite games >.> Thought her voice was familiar...)

What's New Scooby Doo was a good successor to the original series in my opinion. It kept the same plot formula and sense of humor. Unfortunately it didn't have the laugh track.

Considering there is literally only one decent show on CN that hasn't been relegated to the "after bedtime" hours, that sounds on par.
