Android Phone Thread

I know I along with many others love customizing their phone. However too many a time do I see someone with an Android phone with stock Samsung TouchWiz and complaining about the design of "android" so i've decided to make this thread in order to help you people out there who are not impressed with the look, performance and features of your android phone. And for those people who just want to find new ways to customize their phone.

Take screenshots of an area of your phone that you are not happy with and we'll gladly help walk you through changing that or finding something that can give you the features that you want. It's as simple as that.
If you are trying to get support, I request that you tell us your issue in excruciatingly detail, last few installed aps/scripts and a few screenshots if you can.

Currently only me and my lovely assistant Jen will be running this thread. But if you would like to join i'd love to have you. That is if you have a little bit of Android knowledge, just PM me about it!

Hey you! Post your Homescreen here and tell us how you achieved the look. Where you found the wallpaper, any themes, icon packs, maybe launcher and even widgets that make the look! I wanna know what you guys have got out there and maybe you can help someone out in finding what they need! (Maybe even show us your lock screen too!) Use this image as a header when you do to make your post look a little more official if you feel http://i.imgur.com/M0KgTYp.png

Spoiler:
  • Adblock Plus is definitely handy to get rid of those pesky ads in other free apps. Of course you should respect content creators and support them by viewing the ads, however this is definitely helpful in cases where the ads obstruct the use of the app or website. For root users there is no set up, but if you don't have route you'll need to enter some network info.
    Download APK

  • AirDroid is super handy if you don't want to pull out your phone or it's across the room and you're a lazy shit or something. I use it for copying my clipboard from PC to Android and vice versa a lot. The app lets you make calls, make texts, see notifications, transfer files and even control your device from your PC all for free.

  • Boxer premium comes in the cApps package for CyanogenMod and I love it for all easy organization and awesome interface it has. In my opinion it is by far the best replacement for the default email app(s).
    cApps, Boxer Free

  • Bhoot allows you to change your boot animations from your phone. You can upload gifs, mp4s and other video types to convert to a boot animation or browse other user created animations to use. It basically does everything for you and takes the work out of changing your boot animation. So simple and easy to use.
    Download

  • One of the better after-market camera applications with so many features to boot. If you are into photography and have a fairly good phone camera, definitely check this one out if you want to unlock the full potential of that camera.
    XDA Forums

  • Since Google Search doesn't really have a prevail-ant personality like Siri does. Cortana is definitely something fun to play with, works exactly the same as the Windows 10 version. You can only download this in the United States but if you just look for an APK online you can bypass the region lock.
    Download, Download APK

  • ES File Explorer is THE replacement file manager to stock. It allows for so much and has built in archive reading and extracting, which is the main feature I enjoy. I also enjoy the ES Downloader included with because I like to see the details of my downloads also. Can't tell you all the features since I don't really know them all but it's definitely a worth while download.
    Download

  • Flashify is the go to app for flashing anything, new rom, app package and more. You can download and install the recovery of your choice from within, order the way in which you flash packages and commands. And the material design just adds to the whole streamlined experience.
    Download

  • Got friends on all different platforms for mobile phones? Want an easy way to make a group chat for everyone? GroupMe has got you. You don't need an account in the slightest and are able to just use SMS to create a group chat or you can use the app which has a nice design and great features.
    Download

  • MX Player is the go-to video player on Android and you've probably heard of it. If you're looking to stream video or watch video this app has the best way to watch anything. The install proccess is very streamlined and allows for decoding of many more file types than your stock player allows for. Odds are if you cant view it in stock, you can view it in MX Player.
    Download

  • Looking for a powerful launcher similar to stock but don't want to pay the premium? Nova Launcher free has all the features and then some that you could ever want in a launcher. Nova Launcher is probably the most popular launcher on the app store and for good reason.
    Download

  • Showbox is a movie and streaming service akin to Netflix. I don't believe they host their own videos but they find all the links online from viable sources and compile them into an easy to use menu and most Android Box's use this for streaming purposes. This app also offers subtitles! So if you have MX Player, be sure to take advantage of that.
    Download APK

  • Textra is the best replacement for stock SMS in my opinion. It has a very nice and customizable interface with a ton of features and it also allows you to do MMS over Wifi if your carrier supports it!
    Download

  • This app let's you back up apps and their user data. Very handy if you are installing new roms all the time or you want to install apps to a new phone. I use it sometimes to backup my save in games and stuff and then I can remove the app to create more storage for other things and come back to it whenever. You can schedule backups whenever you want and a lot more!
    Download

  • ViPER4Android is a super powerful audio processing driver. You can fix issues with current sound quality with ease and if you know a little bit more about sound processing and audio terms you can create the best sound for any peripheral.
    XDA Forums

  • Wolfram|Alpha introduces a fundamentally new way to get knowledge and answers—
not by searching the web, but by doing dynamic computations based on a vast collection of built-in data, algorithms, and methods. I generally use this for Math questions since it can show you how solve equations and what not step-by-step, very awesome for studying if you are lost.

My Homescreen

Postby Burgy » Fri Oct 30, 2015 9:32 am

My home screen currently looks like this:
Spoiler: Image
To get this I found the wallpaper here: http://i.imgur.com/646nL2o.gif

I use the default CM Launcher (Trebuchet): https://www.google.ca/search?q=trebuche ... e&ie=UTF-8

The Cryten Icon Pack: https://play.google.com/store/apps/deta ... ibAYbHtdgH

The Minimal Clock Widget here: https://play.google.com/store/apps/deta ... dget&hl=en

Animated Gif Wallpaper: https://play.google.com/store/apps/deta ... mwHq-Z2gCg

And I use the Gem Emerald Theme but it's not that great in CM 12: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthr ... ?t=2467075

Previously my phone looked like this: Spoiler: I have CyanogenMod 11 running on my super old Galaxy S II X and it's pretty good if I overclock it but otherwise it's a garbage phone. I'm in love with making themes, downloading themes and installing icon packs.
I have my own custom version of Gem Emerald with bits and pieces of Hologlass running so I can have see through menus (y) and someone's white icon pack. And I'm pretty happy with how it all looks! I also have the Android L boot animation which is pretty sweet. Along with Legend of Zelda sound pack for system noises.

I don't want this thread to become a debate thread. But thanks for the thread compliment.

Alright I'll bite just to spark discussion or whatever :P Here's my home screen.

Spoiler: Image

So I'm not really interested in a theme or whatever... I'm fine with my vanilla stuff (don't judge me). But that ugly widget thing at the top is killing me. I don't really know what to search for or where to search, but I want something that has the same features with a cleaner look. That is, the time, weather (even though it hardly ever gets my location accurate), and battery level. Not sure if that's even possible with something other than the stock DROID one I have, but if you feel like lookind around, I'd appreciate it.

Personally I enjoy the look of CyanogenMod's cLock if you want something that looks more stock.
It's been released on Google Play as Chronus: https://play.google.com/store/apps/deta ... er.chronus
It's highly customizable and in addition to the features requested (though there is no battery level) you can even have calendar events show underneath.
Similar to cLock is DashClock which shows the same data in a different way though.

I am currently using https://play.google.com/store/apps/deta ... dget&hl=en however it doesn't have the Weather bit to it. And it's also highly customizable.

If you are looking for something a little more advanced, I use https://play.google.com/store/apps/deta ... elus&hl=en which is a Zooper Widget. Zooper Widget is a make-your-own-widget app basically and people release these apps for them.

Though I think cLock would be the best for you probably. Since it looks best with stock. (or use Yzaias')

Going to be making tutorials for a few popular phone models for installing custom roms, root tips and tricks that I use and useful apps. Thought I should bump this thread since it died so fast.
Look out for updates if you're interested.

EDIT: Added apps below the OP, if you have any useful one that you use. Send me a link and i'll check it out and add it!

Here's my homescreen.
Spoiler:
I use the DashClock Widget which shows the time, emails and my alarm. The Icon pack I use is Around. I use Nova.
I feel my homescreen is a bit bland, but it does its job! The phone I have is the OnePlus Two.

Ooo the OnePlus Two is really cool, I really like OxygenOS.

Well it depends on what you use your phone for. I use my phone to do things that you can't really do on iPhones (at least easily). And what Android phone did you have? Because people buy the like low send $50 phones and say they don't like Android when they buy an $1000 iPhone. Gotta try out a flagship model some time.
