Big map bad.
Too big means theres less chances of players interacting, which is fine, but also very *boring*.
Small map also bad, as that leads to nobody ever being free enough to act.

this leads to the often-time problem of the map growing bigger for story reasons while the playercount shrinks which makes the balance change heavily over the course of a game

ye i changed the map and i'm getting some help making it from somebody who isn't going to join the game so I don't feel bad that they can't play

You can totally host it as soon as possible. Cuz I'm not sure when everything else im doing will end
