Jester solo win in high ELO ranked

Postby PatrykSzczescie » Wed Jul 15, 2020 8:53 am

Alright, there's been numerous ThReE hUnDrEd Iq JeStEr PlAyS which works 5% of games but it is so satisfying 5% of outplaying town but 95% is not to be mentioned. The safest play is to side with evils praying town loses majority. I have won several jester games a row without teaming up with anyone in ranked games. As I don't play ToS because I can't play on Unity, I don't mind sharing my strat of how to get guiltied as jester avoiding night-kills.

The aim of jester is to:
- avoid getting killed by vig,
- avoid getting killed in jail,
- avoid getting killed by evils,
- get voted up,
- get more guilties than inno votes.

Surviving N1

No special strats about what to say D1 to avoid getting killed N1, it's low chance. You can talk D1, some players don't kill D1 talkers as evils.
-> TP/LO request?
Pro: surviving N1 guaranteed if no jailor claim.
Con: lower chance of being paid attention.
Con: semi-cleared with RM visit.
Con: possibility of being doused.

Jailed N1

Best claims are townish hard to confirm TS: Ret, Esc, Trans, Mayor. Once during the day you're asked to out a will, then you make out excuses of how you can't do this or being only on dead or confirming Consort visits and you get lynched. Jailor doesn't bother bringing you back to jail when you're exempt from performing important abilities.

Lookout claim works similarly to aforementioned TS claims though getting back to jail to review your reports is possible by some players, then your fate decided depending on how good your will is. If you happen to be jailed again, make sure to put some random visits onto people who didn't out their wills and didn't whisper to Jailor. If there's no contradiction, you can be free once again and those people will be asked if their visits were real, later being lynched for fake visits.

Sheriff, Invest, Spy, Medium and TP are not comfortable claims. It's like being jailed N1 was regrettable. As TI you're required to post will everyday. Once you get back to jail, you're almost guaranteed to be executed. You're less likely to be lynched than normally and more likely to be killed by evils if your claim looks trueish to them.

Claiming TK = getting vig-killed.

Not claiming any town role = getting executed N2.

Getting a scummy claim

When you're asked for claim, give a scummy one that makes them guilty you during the day. Best scummy claims are situational ones.

-> Mimicking NK
Claiming Doctor, Sheriff or Bodyguard in SK, WW or Arso game respectively gives impulses to vote up and look into your will. Avoiding TP/LO requests as Doctor, not giving constant results as Sheriff or vesting when Arso ignites is understable to avoid contradictions with LO and Invest results and those reasons are enough to get you lynched on day, don't try to say anything absurd besides.

-> Janitorial
Don't instantly claim Medium when Janitor cleans because you might not be voted up but rather killed during the night by any role possible. Once you're voted up, just claim the role and nothing else. You'll most likely get a cc. If medium is supposed to meet cleaned players during the night, say they were TI without giving any results. It's known that Janitor is an expert of knowing roles from cleaned people.

-> Not cc'ing
Townies expect themselves to out TI results since D2 constantly, TP and LO being on D1 requests and some role types being cc'd when claimed. When you're voted up, try to claim a role type that has been claimed by the most of people with some. Try to give a will that doesn't necessarily confirm you as scum but looks like you didn't want to be paid attention. If you're one of the first to be voted up, try to give TP visit not on request or blend into TI whose results look matching. You have higher chance of being lynched by not following meta than being killed tonight.

General attitude

If no one knows your role, don't claim on your own until you're voted up. Don't cc any role type except for TP if you think LO can refute your claim. Vote people up to make you seem towny only when you're close to be voted for role. If you're somewhere last on the list, refuse to vote up so people can notice your potential scum move, although it might be led to be killed by Vig or checked by Sheriff or Invest which doesn't work for your favor but it's better than acting townier than potential evils.

Get out of jail!

If you're jailed on N2 or later without a claim, the strategy depends on whether the Jailor has executions or not. If not, you claim something scummy (don't claim evil) with will of "don't confirm me!" and you're called out the following day.

If Jailor can execute you, you need to bail out of the jail at all costs. If you're put in situation where all town role types have been claimed or you don't pay close attention to what's been claimed, don't even try cc'ing to kick already claimed townies out of RT room. In this situation legitimate claims are desperate ones, so the following:

-> Mayor claim as long as none has been revealed or died.
-> Ret claim if no one died the previous night. Chance of getting out of jail are high if there's already dead townie and low if there's somebody cleaned. Hope someone revives while you in jail.
-> LO claim if you can give a non-contradicting will (non-contradicting to Jailor, of course). A difficult one.

Eventually, you can steal roleblocks and transports to claim respective Esc or Trans respectively if none has claimed.

Getting attention

Alright, you know most of tricks of how to get out of jail and get guiltied almost always when voted up. But the remaining issue is that if people don't vote you up, none of those tricks might be put in use. Also, it can't be too obvious that you're a jester so asking to be voted up is out of question.

You can claim roleblocked when no one actually roleblocked you. It works best when there was D1 request for escort. Once voted up, you give a somehow legit will. People will ask if the Esc to confirm, no one will do and you get lynched.

Claiming transported can also bring some attention, especially when there's Trans who didn't trans you. After no one confirms the transportation, a non-absurd will given and you're lynched.

When you're transed or rb'd, you're obliged to hide this fact. The TS will call you out. Confirming being transed or rb'd after being voted up works for your favor.

Voting guilty on person who was just voted for role and inno'd looks kinda absurd but not that much if there are legit grounds to suspect the person voted up. Try to justify yourself by claiming the same role type. Don't do this against Vig though, you risk getting killed tonight.

When invested

The worst case is if an Invest claim calls framer/vampire/jester on you. It's most difficult to defend yourself. You should act towny or try to imitate Framer's visit as TP, eventually transing self with someone non-confirmed. You need to act as towny as possible to defend yourself from being killed tonight by Vig or Jailor. You need to have prepared towny claim and call Invest an Executioner. Solo winning might be tough since then.
