The Vessel (Neutral Evil)

Postby Cabohhh » Sat Jun 05, 2021 4:23 pm

Role Name:
The Vessel

Role Alignment:
Neutral Evil

Abilities:
During the day, select someone in the graveyard. Gain their attributes and abilities during the night.

Attributes:
You may select someone who has been stoned/cleaned.
You will be notified of your role at the beginning of the night.
If you are checked by a Town Investigative role, you will come up as the role you assume. If you did not select a role, you will come up as the Vessel.
If you are checked by a Consigliere or Witch/Coven Leader/Potion Master, you will come up as the Vessel, regardless of if you selected a role or not.
If a Disguiser attempts to use you, the disguised will appear as the Vessel.
If you kill someone, you may not assume the next day.
Lookouts cannot be deceived by you.
Trappers cannot be deceived by you.
If you attempt to assume the role of someone with a day ability, you will just do nothing for the night.

Notifications:
Vessel:
You have decided to assume [Position]'s role.
You have decided to assume [Position]'s role instead.
You have decided not to assume.
You selected a killing role yesterday, so you will be unable to select a role today.
You did not select a role to assume, so you will stay home tonight.
[Position]'s role was [Role]. You have gained their powers and abilities!

Goal:
See the town fail.

WinCon:
Everyone but Town.

Special Attributes:
Unique.
No defence as the Vessel.

Investigative Results:
Sheriff - (As the Vessel)- You cannot find any evidence of wrongdoing. Your target appears innocent.
Investigator - (As the Vessel)- Escort/Consort/Transporter/Hypnotist/Vessel
Consigliere - Your target acts as a gateway between the physical and ethereal planes. They must be the Vessel!

Achievements:
Change of Plans: Assume the role of an Amnesiac, then remember a Town role.
Accidental Backstab: Kill a member of a faction as the same faction.
Second Coming: Assume Pestilence and kill three people in one night.
In A Flash: Assume the role of an Arsonist, and kill yourself.
Roll the Dice: Assume the role of someone who has or can give defence, and save yourself from an attack.

Additional Information:
I realized that the role could be confusing, so I've created some examples to explain everything in further detail.

Example A: Basics
Player A is a Serial Killer.
Player B is a Jailor.
Player C is a Vessel.

Player A is dead. Player C assumes the role of Player A during the day. Player B jails Player C.
Player C decides not to caution, and kills Player B.

Example B: Investigative Results
Player A is an Investigator.
Player B is a Medium.
Player C is a Consigliere.
Player D is a Vessel.

Player B is dead. Player D assumes the role of Player B during the day.
Player A checks Player D, and sees them as Medium/Janitor/Retributionist/Necromancer.
Player C checks Player D, and sees them as the Vessel.
Player B chats with the dead for the night.

Example C: Trappers and Lookouts
Player A is a Vessel.
Player B is a Mafioso.
Player C is a Lookout.
Player D is a Trapper.
Player E is a Jester.

Player B is dead. Player A assumes the role of Player B.
Player E has a trap on them.
Player C and Player A both visit Player E. Player C sees Player A visit Player E.
Player D sees that a Lookout and a Vessel visited his target, and that his trap was triggered.
Player A dies to the trap, and Player E is saved by the trap.

Why is this a NC role when it has a NE wincon

It's also just Klepto with a fresh coat of paint

Girl idk anymore, I don't keep up with the roles nowadays. But I do see what you mean about the NC with the NE wincon, I'll change it.

I've changed how the Vessel functions. When the Vessel kills someone, they will now be unable to assume the next day.

Previously, if they remembered a Killing role, they would have been unable to assume the next day. I realized that Coven and Neutral Chaos roles had kill capabilities and were not Killing roles, and therefore would not be restricted. This way, all roles with kill capability will be included, and if you attack a role with defence, you won't be penalized.

I've also made it so that if a Disguiser disguises a mafia member as a Vessel, they will simply come up as a Vessel, and not the role that the Vessel assumed that night. This way, it isn't as confusing.

I have other changes, but I'm not sure if I should implement them for the time being.

Nope, you can vessel every role in the game. Even if you can't use their abilities, you'll still gain their properties (ie. Assume Executioner, gain Basic defence for the night, etc.).
You can assume roles with day abilities, but you won't be able to use their abilities.

Isn't this basically Coven's Necromancer but as an NE?

Although Necromancer and Vessel are similar, there are a few distinctions that separate them.

Necromancer can only use visiting roles, and doesn't gain anything from using them.

Vessel gains the abilities AND attributes of a graveyard role, including Mediums, Retributionists, Executioners, etc., meaning that they can give themselves defence.
Necromancer cannot use Medium because Medium doesn't visit. However, If a Vessel assumes the position of a Medium, they will gain access to night chat for the night.

If Necro uses a NK (SK, Arso, WW), they kill with the zombie but are still vulnerable to attack. If a Vessel remembers a NK, they will kill AND gain defence equivalent to the assumed role.

Vessel also changes investigative results for themselves, and can also use stoned/cleaned targets. Necro doesn't do that.

If you have any other questions, I'll be glad to answer them! I appreciate the question! :D
