In this game, everyone retains ownership of their badge, and will only lose possession of it once they make a formal guess and are incorrect.

I don't think so. I think our only theory based them was it not being fire, and I still think in that way.
I think we should redeem it as it is a less important clue compared to other three as there wasn't much theory going on about it.
About pick of student, I think it is natural choice and it doesn't help much, though I will look into if there is any instance which student wouldn't be picked.

Weren't you a detective?
Well, is there really anything that wouldn't work with student? I thought about electricy might have been linked with professional or worker but not with accident.
I guess it was possible to take out accident and put in worker maybe? But that may be found risky as in this case we would think not accidents and accident was the one that made us think electricity in first place.
I am probably leaning a bit to bike accident theory but still I think electricity+ cape theory is on table.

Yeah actually it may be better to explain what I thought with an example event and than check what fits and what doesn't.

Student 1: Wow you have a very good look with this hero cape. Can I put it on for a few minutes? I am sure I will seem so cool, too.
Student 2: No.
Student 1: You never share your good things with others.
Student 2: Yeah and what? We both know you always bencome jeolous for good things I have, and want to have them, but couldn't.
Student 1: You scum *********** , (pushes student 2, student 2 cannot maintain their balance and falls down over open cables, then start shaking/convulsing with making zzztt sound)
Student 1 realizes what they done, escapes with having a look to cape.

Well, I thing only thing doesn't fit may be disorderly, yeah open cables definitely means disorderly but water stain would point it out better as we found electric idea from accident, so we could combo water and electric, though that theory seems to match clues well.
If you think accident means accident-framed murder than add killer was knowing cables was there from earlier and suddenly decided to kill due to how jealous they are.
