Custom Mode Gamerules

Postby SuperGDPWYL » Tue Aug 02, 2022 2:29 pm

Gamerules are special options that can be modified in customs and are changed in certain gamemodes.

Some ideas for gamerules so far:
Anonymous Voting (Checkbox) (false by default)
If checked, votes will be anonymous.

Autovests? (Checkbox) (true by default, false in Vigilantics)
If unchecked, Witch and other roles that have such a defense will lose it at the start of the game.

Traitor? (Checkbox) (false by default, true in Coven
Town Traitor/Town Traitor)
If checked, a random Townie will join a random evil faction. This can bypass the faction limit.

Lovers? (Checkbox) (false by default, true in Lovers)
If checked, 8 players who do not have a Suicidal role will be part of a lover pair.

Town VIP (Town Roleslot) (None by default, Random Town in VIP Mode)
If the chosen role spawns, one of the players with this role will be chosen as the Town's VIP. The VIP cannot be a Suicidal role.

Banned Roles (List of Roles) (none by default)
None of the roles in this list will be allowed to spawn.

If we're going for maximum freedom, these options could also be added:
Mafia VIP (Mafia Roleslot) (None by default)
If the chosen role spawns, one of the players with this role will be chosen as the Mafia's VIP.

Coven VIP (Coven Roleslot) (None by default)
If the chosen role spawns, one of the players with this role will be chosen as the Coven's VIP.

Rivals? (Checkbox) (false by default, true in Rivals)
If checked, 8 players will be part of a rival pair.

Faction Limit (Number) (4 by default)
Sets the maximum amount of members an evil faction can spawn with.

Default Role Limit (Number) (6 by default)
Sets the default maximum amount of the same non-unique role that can spawn in a game.

Case-by-case Role Limit (Dropdown - once dropped down, a list of every Role in the game alongside a Number) (Default Role Limit by default for non-Unique roles)
Sets the maximum amount of this role that can spawn in a game. Some roles' limits may not be changed to stop game-breaking issues.

Roles Hidden? (Checkbox - false by default)
If checked, all roles in the graveyard will appear as (Hidden). Retributionists, Forgers, Janitors and Amnesiacs may not roll.

We could also replace Rapid Mode with a checkbox in the gamerules if needed.

(Vigilante, Executioner, Jester and Bodyguard are considered to be Suicidal roles.)

This should be implemented, along with these suggestions, which were in the same vein:

Custom mode should allow hosts the maximum freedom in choosing game parameters.

Regarding the Traitor, Rivals, Lovers and VIP, we can even set which roles/factions can get it.
For Traitors, having Neutral Traitors will have a Neutral side with a non-Neutral faction. This can add an interesting dynamic where you want to cooperate with your Neutral buddy. A lynched Mafia Jester can help Mafia by haunting the Jailor, conversely, a Town Jester can help Town by haunting the Godfather while the Jailor executes someone else. On the other hand, making a Mafia member the Traitor will force them to side Town, other Mafia won't know who this Traitor Mafia is and neither would the Traitor Mafia know who the other Mafia are. Same goes for Coven.
For VIP, making Mafia and Coven VIP will make it such that killing them will cause the loss of whatever faction the VIP belonged to. Other factions will win as long as the opposing VIP is dead. This way you can ensure something like Town screaming in D1 chat, "TOWN HAS NO VIP, VIP IS MAF/COV" which could lead to some hilarious amounts of chaos.
For Lovers and Rivals, you probably make it so that they might belong to the same faction (in case of non-Town Lovers). Imagine having a Consort x Godfather Lover pair. You can also blacklist which roles can be Lovers or Rivals (for extra insurance).

An additional option could be regarding whispers. You can disable whispers (like in VIP mode) or make whispers private (like the whispers between Lovers in Lovers mode). If the whispers are set to private, Blackmailers would be even stronger here because they know who is whispering who and what info are they giving.

Some other options I thought of were Unique lists. This list is similar to the Banned lists except, the roles in this list will only spawn once (in case of Vampires, making a Vampire unique will make them function as a whole faction, so every bite is an attack; basically a Serial Killer with no defense). Roles which are unique by default (like all Coven roles, Retributionist, etc.) will already be there, so removing them from the list will cause multiple of them to spawn in the game. A great use for this could be forcing juggernaut to spawn in an all Neutral Killing list by making Serial Killer and Arsonist unique.

Hiding Roles and Wills should be split into two separate options. In doing so, you could still speculate on a player's role, even after reading their will or conversely, speculate who did the dead Investigator visit the night they died. As for hidden roles, Necromancer should not spawn either.

This turned out bigger than I thought lol.
