This game probably won't ever surface again, but I gained experience

I was thinking of adding exams and midterms but idk about the mechanics
Maybe some sort of clue as to each one's identity
I don't want this to be too similar to BtM either

Thank you all for testing the first iteration of this game. There are a lot of improvements to make to this game, so be sure to leave your feedback and criticism.

Unfortunately, this game failed my expectations quite heavily. Then again, I don't play a lot of FM and didn't deeply consider what might happen during discussion. Some of you have talked with me regarding the improvements I can make on Discord as well. Here are some of the problems this game had and the solutions to solve them:

Lack of discussion: Since you're playing this for the first time and not familiar with the various mechanics of its roles, you often made mistakes when discussing mechanics, which I often corrected. However, the hypoclaim strategy implemented, the role mechanics, and the incentive to avoid being a target for the Calamity left a lack of discussion, leaving non-investigative roles with no info to go on.

In the Discord server, we've discussed changing the rules so that the people who get killed lose and adding an extra execution that only activates when the players hit vote majority in any month before the class trip. This adds an incentive to talk and not be ruled out for execution, but if people choose not to talk to avoid becoming a target for the Calamity, they may contribute to a game lost. I realize that, to avoid becoming a target, you might save things for September, so a lot more consideration on this is needed.
Lack of deaths: With Yukari's reworked role and the vigilantes' vests, the Calamity could claim as little as 4 lives per game. I've decided to balance this by reducing the player count to 12 and removing Ikuo Takabayashi from the identity list, as his ability is too similar to the Teacher's and inherently useless, while the Teacher may use his ability to confirm himself.
One Who Does Not Exist: Ideally, the person with this class position will claim his/her class position on Month 1, creating a meta where every game may result in this scenario.

I may have to change how this class position functions, although, with the new rules, people may lie about being the non-existent one.
To move this game along, I have considered shortening the timeframe for a month to 24 hours and prodding people to avoid tragedies such as timur forgetting his result on Mario
Addition rules to add include not to quote host PMs.

In conclusion, this is a hard game to fix if I am to ever fix it, since it's missing a core element for most of the game. What can I replace the voting system with that can generate discussion?

END OF SCHOOL TERM

Mei Misaki opened her eyepatch one last time, revealing her green, artificial eye. The last six people she checked seemed completely clean; they appeared to have not a single stain on them. Perhaps her eye had lost its properties?

As the wood-built inn began to feel strangely warm, the group reached a consensus and began to corner MoustachioMario, who starts backing away, feebly trying to find reasons for his innocence.

As Mei glanced around the inn, checking the students one last time, she saw it: an incredible, dark veil of purple, blue, and red. The color of death was radiating off none other than Chemist1422. Thinking quickly, she ran in the direction of the kitchen, hoping to send him back with a knife.

This proved to be impossible, however. As MoustachioMario tried to escape from the advancing students, he opened the door to the dining hall, only to be greeted by an explosion of fire, incinerating him. As if in response, the walls of the inn began collapsing due to a long-burning fire. As the rest of the students, the Extra included, escaped the burning inn, Mei made one last attempt to find the Extra but to no avail, as he disappeared, never to be seen again.

The Extra subsequently disappeared from the memories of the remaining students, leaving a trail of death and calamity in his wake.

MoustachioMario had the most votes. However, he died due to the Calamity! He was an Independent Investigator. His identity was Ikuo Takabayashi - The Willed.

48 hours has passed, yet little progress has been made. I'm assuming people got bored during this whole game. I'm considering allowing an extra 48 hours to wrap this whole thing up.

October: Month 7

"We've received a report that one of the elevator shafts at Yomiyama Hospital had malfunctioned, resulting in one casualty. Police reports say that the elevator in question had not received recent maintenance, which may have caused to the elevator cords to snap and caused its safety measures to fail. The elevator fell and crashed to the 2nd basement floor. The victim in question has been identified as Sanae Mizuno, a nurse working at the hospital, who was crushed when the elevator collapsed in on itself."

When the remaining students arrived at the shrine, it had gotten incredibly stormy. Clearly, there was bound to be some bad luck ahead of them. Since they could not visit the shrine due to the weather, they had decided to stay at a nearby inn to try to solve the Extra's identity before it's too late.

Takeru Mizuno was targeted by the Calamity. He has gained the ability to kill.

September: Month 6

"An excavator crashed into the side of a house yesterday night, killing Atsushi Ogura in his room. Police were quick to arrive at the scene. The company owning the excavator has assumed responsibility and launched a subsequent investigation into the incident."

"As per the class tradition, we will visit Yomiyama Shrine next month," the Teacher announced. "Uphold the class rules and we'll get through this together," he repeated, albeit with noticeably less confidence than when he spoke at the beginning of the year.

Yumi Ogura - The Avenger was targeted by the Calamity. She has gained the ability to kill.

August: Month 5

AaronC, despite the person he was, disappeared from the class for several months. Students thought he wanted to escape from Yomiyama, but alas, he made no such attempt. Was he sick or did he simply not want to come to class? No one would know, because it was confirmed this morning, during their haiku class, that Naoya Teshigawara would not be coming back to school as his family is declared missing following police investigations.

AaronC has died to the Calamity! He was an Independent Investigator. His identity was Naoya Teshigawara - The Sociable.

July: Month 4

DJVoxel was involved in a fatal car crash this morning. Rumors that the Calamity targeted random students made less and less sense as the more talktative students seemed to be unlucky.

As the other class representative, DJVoxel actively partook in the classes, doing so with a flair not unlike the one seen in the recent ZoruaLuhansk. He made sure that the whole class was engaged in discussions regarding The Extra and dutifully upheld the class rules, so it was a shame when he did not show up for class today.

DJVoxel has died to the Calamity! He was an Independent Investigator. His identity was Tomohiko Kazami - The Vigilante.

48 hours remain until the Calamity claims another life.

June: Month 3

As the next month dawns, the students of Class 3-3 were pretty sure what to expect. ZoruaLuhansk was quite a talkative student and actively engaged in all of their classes so far, so the Calamity would likely target him next. This prediction was on point, as the Calamity claimed its first life for the year one afternoon.

Every time the class had PE, it was noteworthy to mention that Class 3-3 had PE alone and did not mingle with the other classes of the school. In one of these PE lessons, while the class was playing baseball, the ball managed to roll itself into one of the bushes near the school building. Zorua, eager as he was, ran to the bush and bent down to pick up the ball. However, he did not stand up again. As the rest of the class would later find out, the broken leg of an old chair, hidden in the bush, had pierced through Zorua's eye, rendering him motionless.

ZoruaLuhansk has died due to the Calamity! He was an Independent Investigator. His identity was Kouichi Sakakibara - The Investigator.

So they kill before the class vote and other kills go through then?

If they kill someone that has a shot during the trip, do they lose their vote and/or their shot? Or does the shot go off at the same time as the calamity?

All actions go through at the same time at the end of the month, so a thing like death won't restrict your action from being performed in the same month. For example, it's possible for The Extra and The Vigilante to kill each other during the class trip.

May: Month 2

After much tension due to the steps taken to avoid the Calamity, the class quickly fell back into its regular schedule and had its first morning class. Surprisingly, quite a few students were eager to learn during today's advanced maths class despite having the presence of The Extra loom over them.

Wanting to figure out the identity of The Extra as soon as possible, they were quick to discuss the possibilities of its identity between classes and during lunch. They also weren't very cautious when partaking in a class-wide discussion, however, accidentally acknowledging the existence of the One Who Does Not Exist. They only had themselves to blame for that.

One stormy afternoon, Yukari Sakuragi, the female class representative, couldn't sit still. She stared out of the window, fear growing with each lightning strike she saw. Shoji stopped teaching seeing that the rest of the class has noticed Yukari's unusual behavior. Suddenly, she shouts for the class to move away from the windows. The class, not wishing to die, do so without hesistation. As if on cue, the lightning strikes the school, shattering the windows next to where ZoruaLuhansk and DJVoxel were sitting. Had they been sitting there, they would have become bloodied messes riddled with glass shards. Lives were saved that day.

The Calamity targeted ZoruaLuhansk and DJVoxel, but Yukari Sakuragi - The Officer intervened!

When the calamity or other killers target someone, Mei is able to see if that someone is being targeted given that she is investigating them. This is helpful for confirming the identities of Yumi and Takeru.

I want to clarify that, since Izumi is one of the only two that doesn't actually have an identity-specific action, the Calamity doesn't suppress her ability. The Calamity only replaces one's action, but I could add a part about Izumi into The Extra's description.

Yeah, The Extra can overlap with other class positions.
